Website Timeline for a Small Business
This article explains in a simple step-by-step fashion, how simple decisions
at the start of the life of your company and website can affect the rest
of your online business.
The example used is unfortunately an example used by many thousands of
businesses each month across the world.
An example Small Business Website Timeline (Step-by-Step):
- Day one
- You start out in business and you need a website.
- You get yourself a website from a low-cost web designer.
- The designer may use a ready-made template to save him/her time.
- 1 Month
- The flash intro, JavaScript menu and the small amount of text really
appeal to you and your friends when the design is completed by the designer.
- You use a free submit tool to save money in submitting your site to the
internet.
- You wait.
- You wait some more.
- Your site is finally added a few months later at position #329 of Google.
- 6 months
- You think “I need to get it promoted professionally”.
- You contact a Search Engine Optimiser (SEO).
- The SEO advises that you should not use the JavaScript menu, flash intro
and you must use lots more text and pages across your site.
- You like your site and do not wish to change.
- The SEO explains that if you do not change then you will not receive
search engine queries.
- You don’t listen.
- 8 months
- You realise that by taking the cheap option in the first place that you
have set yourself back months in the growth of your site, brand awareness
and sales on the internet.
- 10 months
- You change the site design to be more SEO friendly.
- You submit the site professionally if you can afford
- The search engine takes months to ‘pick up’ the new site
and delete the old one from its records.
- 12 months +
- You are probably now over ONE YEAR behind a similar type of business
that chose a site that was ready for the search engines in the first place.
- You cry.
